SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING USING THE GRI STANDARDS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

DEWA’s Sustainability & Innovation Centre and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) jointly organize the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Certified Training Program, designed to help professionals and organizations understand the principles and methodologies for sustainability reporting ensuring that their reports align with the globally recognized GRI Standards. The GRI Standards provide a robust structure for transparent reporting on various sustainability issues, helping organizations meet the growing demand for accountability and responsibility from stakeholders, including investors, customers, regulators, and communities.

Upon successful completion of the training, all participants will receive a certificate of completion. However, the credential of GRI Certified Sustainability Professional will only be issued upon successfully passing the official GRI Professional Certification Exam (taken online through the GRI Academy).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications in environmental studies, social and governance (ESG), etc. with preferably 2-3 years of professional experience in relevant tasks such as Environmental Consultancy, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Research, etc.
  • Professionals with a deep interest in Sustainability across various backgrounds such as engineering, natural sciences, business, or other relevant majors.

    • Determining impacts, topics, and disclosures.

  2. Navigating the GRI Sector Standards

    • Purpose and structure of Sector Standards.

    • Applying sector guidance for more relevant, comparable reports.

  3. Reporting on Human Rights with the GRI Standards

    • Understanding the role of human rights in sustainability reporting.

    • Identifying impacts, risks, and material topics related to human rights.

    • Disclosing due diligence and remediation practices.

  4. Transparency for Tomorrow: Decoding the Sustainability Reporting Landscape

    • Emerging trends and regulatory shifts, including double materiality.

    • Comparison of key frameworks and how they align with GRI.

    • Selecting and integrating reporting instruments effectively.

Assessment & Certification (Not included as part of training)

Participants complete the GRI Professional Certification Exam online through the GRI Academy upon finishing the training. Successful candidates receive the GRI Certified Sustainability Professional credential issued directly by GRI.
